Laphroaig 10 has long been my favorite scotch. This stuff is like doubling the intensity of that, then adding little men with flamethrowers in it. It’s incredibly drinkable, even sans water- then with water, it becomes the beloved Laphroaig 10 we all know and love.
The Nose Flair of Laphroaig 10 Years Old
Laphroaig 10 year exhibits huge peat smoke notes, almost reminiscent of an extinguished campfire on the beach. There is a certain briny quality evident, as well as a slight hint of wet seaweed and perhaps just a touch of vanilla.
This opens on big, smoky muscular peat notes. There are spices, and liquorice, as well as a big dose of salt.
This whisky has become slightly sweeter in passed years, and it beautifully on the nose, amidst the classic iodine/sticking plasters and cool wood smoke we love.

A hint of salt air emerges to linger on the palate, you can clearly tell that this whisky is produced in a maritime climate.
A slight vanilla and caramel note becomes apparent underneath all of the smoke and salt to balance out these huge flavors.
Seaweed-led, with a hint of vanilla ice cream and more than a whiff of notes from the First Aid box (TCP, plasters etc). The oak is big, and muscles its way into the fore as you hold this whisky over your tongue. An upsurge of spices develop – cardamom/black pepper/chilli.
