You all have tasted Laphroaig, at least one of the big Islay’s.

Laphroaig 10 has long been my favorite scotch. This stuff is like doubling the intensity of that, then adding little men with flamethrowers in it. It’s incredibly drinkable, even sans water- then with water, it becomes the beloved Laphroaig 10 we all know and love.

The Nose Flair of Laphroaig 10 Years Old

Laphroaig 10 year exhibits huge peat smoke notes, almost reminiscent of an extinguished campfire on the beach. There is a certain briny quality evident, as well as a slight hint of wet seaweed and perhaps just a touch of vanilla.

This opens on big, smoky muscular peat notes. There are spices, and liquorice, as well as a big dose of salt.

This whisky has become slightly sweeter in passed years, and it beautifully on the nose, amidst the classic iodine/sticking plasters and cool wood smoke we love.

Body and Palate Of Laphroaig

Laphroaig 10 year old is a big, full-bodied and mouth coating single malt whisky with a slightly oily mouthfeel. On the palate, Laphraoig 10 offers predominant smoky flavors, peat smoke and campfire tones intermingled with a bit of creosote.

A hint of salt air emerges to linger on the palate, you can clearly tell that this whisky is produced in a maritime climate.

A slight vanilla and caramel note becomes apparent underneath all of the smoke and salt to balance out these huge flavors.

Seaweed-led, with a hint of vanilla ice cream and more than a whiff of notes from the First Aid box (TCP, plasters etc). The oak is big, and muscles its way into the fore as you hold this whisky over your tongue. An upsurge of spices develop – cardamom/black pepper/chilli.

Laphroaig Single Malt – Final Verdict

On the finish, Laphroaig 10 offers a long, lingering and powerful medley of smoke, salt and caramel to stand up to other big flavors. For whisky enthusiasts who enjoy a big, bold whisky Laphroaig 10 is guaranteed to please.

Laphroaig 10 would pair perfectly with a cigar as its bold flavor profile will complement the flavor of the cigar. I personally enjoy Laphroaig 10 as a nightcap in front of a fire on a cold, rainy day with a good book and it also makes an excellent after-dinner scotch.
